Rotterdam van mijn vader

Rick's father died in 1998 from Alzheimer's disease. What remained was the feeling of loss. Was it a missed opportunity? The answer to this question is the subject of this theater performance. An inspiring evening for all Rotterdammers who are proud of their city.

Rick Willemsen plays a performance in which songs alternate with storytelling. He sings about and describes the typical father-son relationship from the 70s and 80s in Rotterdam. And the impact Alzheimer's disease had on his father. And so on him.

My Father's Rotterdam is a performance about a son's search for the relationship with his father. Rick Willemsen discovers the war diaries of his father and grandfather in a cupboard in his parental home. Independently of each other, they kept a diary during Rotterdam's hunger winter. Rick puts the family stories together like puzzle pieces. He reads all the letters and articles that his father wrote as a journalist, his speeches for Bram Peper and examines his own relationship with his father. His father died in 1998 from Alzheimer's disease. What remained was the feeling of loss. Was it a missed opportunity? The answer to this question is the subject of this theater performance. An inspiring evening for all Rotterdammers who are proud of their city.
