Rossini - Petite Messe Solenelle
Chamber choir Toonkunst Rotterdam conducted by Maria van Nieukerken.
The Petite Messe Solennelle is a religious work composed by Gioachino Rossini in 1863. Rossini, who is best known for his operas, composed this mass late in life, almost 30 years after his last opera.
The title literally means "Small Solemn Mass", but despite this name it is a large work containing all the traditional elements of the Latin mass. Rossini called it "petite" because of the small instrumentation.
Chamber choir Toonkunst Rotterdam will perform the work in an arrangement by Gustavo Trujillo in which the accordion takes centre stage and the solo parts of alto, tenor and bass have been arranged for choir.
