Rosenkranzsonaten Samir Calixto
The Rosary Sonatas by Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber are an important work from the 17th century. This cycle of fifteen violin sonatas and a passacaglia for solo violin is considered a highlight of Baroque music.
However, the maniacal virtuosity of the Rosary Sonatas does not stand alone, but is closely linked to the symbolic layering of the work, which goes back to ancient knowledge traditions in which art, spirituality and science are fully integrated. The cycle therefore has an unprecedented complexity and depth, and it is precisely in this that Samir Calixto sees its relevance.
As always with Calixto, this performance is about the shared experience of a compelling total theater experience that connects dancers, musicians and spectators through its 'dance language of continuation'. The two-hour cycle will be performed in its full length by a top chamber music ensemble led by the renowned violinist and conductor Shunske Sato, who has headed the Netherlands Bach Society for the past ten years and has also been conductor and concertmaster at the prestigious Concerto Köln since 2011.
More than an intense dance and music performance , Rosenkranzsonaten promises a journey into the depths. Two important contemporary artists who believe in the timeless impact of musical masterpieces have taken up this challenge and are taking up the challenge.
