Ripples, Ripples

Ripples a Dialogue with Iconic Painters!

Ripples, Ripples

Artists: Mel Chan and Tim Mastik

There is a myth that artists, like hermits, retreat into solitude – cut off from the rhythms of the world – to bring their creations to life in isolation. But in reality, artists are far from isolated: they are a living line that connects the present with the past. Their works engage with the history of art, while paying homage to the movements and masters that shaped them.

The exhibition Ripples, Ripples brings together two contemporary artists who engage with the legacies of abstraction and photorealism, drawing inspiration from pioneers such as Gerhard Richter. Their paintings are more than just tributes; they are witty, dynamic responses to monumental traditions – they reinterpret the influence of the past on the present.

Artist Tim Mastik uses geometry, minimalism and material experimentation to create dynamic visual dialogues. Mel Chan boldly confronts Gerhard Richter’s 48 Portraits with pastel paintings of Asian porn stars in moments of ecstatic expression. Like ‘ripples’ in a vast artistic stream, this exhibition engages in conversation with the iconic painters who shaped the course of art history.
