Retriever (Eric van Dijsseldonk) Eric van Dijsseldonk

Retriever is the new solo project of guitarist and singer-songwriter Eric van Dijsseldonk. Twenty years ago he made his debut under the name Dijsseldonk with the English-language “33 1/3”, after which two Dutch-language albums and an EP followed. Now he writes and sings again in English, ultimately the language of the pop music he grew up with.

The Beatles are never far away in his songs, which also show American seventies influences. Van Dijsseldonk knows his classics and also knows how to write a catchy pop song.

Live he performs new and older work of his own, supplemented with some covers of his heroes, and is accompanied by Rolf Verbaant (guitar) and Erik Harbers (bass).

In recent years, Van Dijsseldonk mainly played guitar with artists such as Malford Milligan and Erwin Nyhoff (previously also with JW Roy and Ricky Koole, among others), and he regularly appeared on stage with the trio Spanjers, Dijsseldonk & Planteijdt. Now he is hitting the road again as a Retriever with his own songs.

"Eric van Dijsseldonk has the gift of subtly and sometimes with a wink, transforming a retro sixties and seventies pop sound into warm, familiar and, above all, timeless pop music. He also remains lyrically close to himself, allowing you as a listener to move on very quickly. the pure simplicity of his songs is captured." (Lust For Life)

"Great. Van Dijsseldonk has a great talent for writing semi-uptempo songs and ballads. In them he combines the different instruments in a seemingly casual way into beautifully flowing melodies, often with an emphasis on harmonious choruses." (Heaven)

"Honest, warm-blooded and simply catchy." (Leo Blokhuis)
