Requiem van Mozart in de Laurenskerk van Rotterdam
Requiem
Mozart's Requiem became known to the general public through the film 'Amadeus' and is perhaps the most impressive work of this composer who died young. Mozart wrote it just before his own death, commissioned by an anonymous client. The Requiem evokes feelings of mourning, fear and sadness. But at the same time also hope, light and beauty.
Coronation Fair
The festive Coronation Mass shows a completely different Mozart. At the coronation of the King of Bohemia, the archbishop decreed that the mass should not last longer than 25 minutes. Despite, or perhaps because of this restriction, the mass radiates vitality and energy.
Miserable May
The concert opens with the impressive a-capella Miserere Mei by Allegri. This work was once not allowed to be sung anywhere else but in the Vatican. Until the 14-year-old Mozart heard it in the Sistine Chapel in Rome and wrote it down in full. Now live during the performances!
