Reaweken Your Roots

Guest programmer Joyce de Vries of #Indozijn has put together a beautiful program especially for ONNI. Reawaken Your Roots: Connection Rediscovered. The evening is about rediscovering your origins and restoring the connection with your roots, which is sometimes lost due to migration (voluntary or forced). Together we explore ways to find that connection.

Joyce is a photographer, founder of @indos.shop and festival director of Floating Pasar. Her Indonesian roots lie in Dutch New Guinea and Indonesia, but she noticed that her knowledge about that origin was limited. After the birth of her son, she decided to change this, not only for herself, but also for the next generation. From that search, the idea arose to playfully connect with culture and family history. Joyce knows better than anyone how challenging, but valuable it is to reconnect with your roots and hopes to inspire others to do the same this evening.
