Ratchet

Dark and mysterious, but with the core of a pronounced heart: that is what Leiden alternative Indie artist Ratchet (Karel Laureijs) brings to the table with his music. What started as a way to impress a girl at school, grew into something much bigger than his solo project. And now he brings his story to Lab Grounds.

Ratchet's music is best described as a walk through a lit city at night. Each song has its own unique aesthetic and usually tells a story about Ratchet's personal problems. He tries to be mysterious, but clear enough for everyone to enjoy his music. Although most of his songs vary in style or genre, they all take place in the same created world of Ratchet.

“What started as a way to socialize exploded into an online community of like-minded people.” In Ratchet’s eyes, it’s a way to express his own feelings and emotions. Sometimes quite obvious, other times deeply encoded in the music. Although still in school, Ratchet dreams of devoting his future to his music. A future outside of his formal bedroom studio.
