Quatuor Danel Kamermuziekvereeniging

The Quatuor Danel was founded in 1991 and is known for their bold and focused interpretations of the string quartets of Beethoven, Shostakovich and Weinberg. Their lively and fresh vision on the traditional repertoire for string quartet brought them rave reviews and great appreciation from the public and the press.

Mieczysław Weinberg and Dmitri Shostakovich are a special couple. After the Polish-Jewish Weinberg fled to Russia in 1939, he became close friends with Shostakovich. While Shostakovich became an international celebrity, appreciation for Weinberg lagged behind. Quatuor Danel has given both composers a prominent place in their choice of repertoire and concerts. The world-famous ensemble recorded the complete oeuvres of both composers.

After the break, the Quatuor Danel will play Beethoven's legendary String Quartet opus 132, which includes the immovable Heiliger Dankgesang eines Genesenen an die Gottheit.
