Peter Somuah in BIRD!
During BoogieBall, Peter Somuah will take you on a musical journey for two nights that effortlessly brings together jazz, funk, soul and West African grooves.
As one of the four local hosts, he plays on Fridays and Saturdays between 1am and 4am, and with his warm, melancholic trumpet sound he knows how to get any room moving.
Born and raised in Ghana, Somuah learned to play by listening endlessly to greats such as Miles Davis, Freddie Hubbard and Roy Hargrove. His unique style, in which jazz and West African rhythms meet subtle electronic influences, earned him the Erasmus Jazz Award in 2021, followed by the prestigious Edison Jazz Award in 2022 for his debut album Outer Space. In June 2024, he collaborated with the WDR Big Band on a project with his own compositions, led by renowned arranger Michael Mossman.
Somuah is not only a host during BoogieBall, but also Artist in Focus of North Sea Round Town 2025. His participation in BoogieBall is part of this special residency within the festival, which is a partner of BoogieBall.
