Otis Gibbs (USA) USA

A piece of Nashville in Valhalla.

A guitar, a really good raw voice and okay a nice beard can also do wonders for the complete picture, but singer-songwriter Otis Gibbs doesn't need more than that to take you from your Valhalla chair to another world.

His songs are about real people, about wanderers and other nomads he met on his travels, the people in rural Indiana where he grew up, the unexpected heroes from the backstreets, or the everyday things he sees around him in East Nashville.

His raw voice is his trademark and musically he is somewhere between Steve Earle, Woody Guthrie, Johnny Cash and Billy Bragg. Otis Gibbs' performances are an experience in themselves. Not only because of his performance. Also because of the stories he tells in between.

Fellow singer Billy Bragg calls him 'The real deal'. Mart Smeets describes him as 'A left-wing activist with a beautiful musical accompaniment'. De Volkskrant wrote: 'Raw unscented folk voice with great narrative gifts' and Lust For Life tops it all off by summarizing Otis as 'the greatest working-class poet currently roaming the globe'.
