Opening expositie "Réels"

On the occasion of the international festival “Novembre Numérique”, the Alliance Française Rotterdam welcomes artist Marc Vuillermoz.

For fifteen years , Marc Vuillermoz has been engaged in research and creation to shed light on the way in which new media shape our perception of the sensory world.

”The images that inspire my work are not photographs, but raw images such as screenshots from amateur videos or from the Street View function of Google maps. As different as these two sources may be, they share an ambition: to create illusion; to present the astonished viewer with a striking, realistic image that makes the ingenuity that goes into its creation forget.

The Internet, one of the main sources of this illusion, maintains the coherence of the images within the stream of which they are a part. Each image rests on the previous one, extends it and takes its place. But if one of them is taken out of its original environment, it loses its coherence; it becomes strange. What I want to bring out in my paintings is therefore the painterly potential of these images that sometimes border on the abstract.

This aesthetic approach is accompanied by a reflection on the digital image, the use of which in the post-photographic era has largely changed our view of adjacent reality. In order to translate the “sound” of the untreated digital images into images, I have developed a special painting technique of oil paint on fat coating.”

The exhibition can be viewed throughout the month of November. Come to the festive opening of the exhibition "Réels" on October 31st in the presence of painter Marc Vuillermoz.
