Onder het IJs

The void that remains hurts unspeakably much. Twenty years later, the perpetrator is caught. Only then can the healing process begin.

Under the Ice is about the power to climb out of the deepest valley. The piece addresses one of the most painful and sad themes that exist with enormous courage. And it remains hopeful and human. A story about three people who have to live with an inescapable past.

One day, ten-year-old Rhona disappears. Her mother Nancy spends years in uncertainty about what happened to her daughter. Until Ralph confesses that he kidnapped and killed the girl a long time ago. While Nancy's life falls apart for the second time, psychologist Agnetha investigates the murderer. She wants to find out what drove him to commit his crime, but in the meantime she is struggling with a great loss herself. In all this darkness, light only begins to shine again when these three get to know each other and each learns to understand themselves. Remorse, forgiveness and comfort take the place of narcissism, hatred and sorrow.

British Bryony Lavery wrote 'Frozen' in 1998 and reworked it in 2018. The play was performed by the National Theatre, among others, before making a splash on Broadway. The Independent added it to its list of '40 best plays ever written'.
