NN North Sea Jazz Festival
NN North Sea Jazz: the festival where jazz music from the past, present and future is presented under one roof for three days. In addition to that solid foundation of jazz, many genres are presented, such as blues, soul, funk, hip hop, world, pop and much more.
The festival, officially known as NN North Sea Jazz Festival since 2018, has developed into a major international event that has grown over the years to fifteen stages, around thirteen hundred musicians and an annual visitor count of between eighty-five and ninety thousand. Since 2006, the festival has also been organised in a new and more spacious location: Rotterdam Ahoy.
The first edition of the North Sea Jazz Festival took place in 1976 in the Hague's Nederlands Congresgebouw. The initial figures: six concert halls, three hundred musicians and some nine thousand visitors. In this very first festival year, jazz legends such as Sarah Vaughan, Count Basie, Dizzy Gillespie and Stan Getz performed. And a complete overview of the Dutch avant-garde passed by.
