New Babylon

An impossible city is made up of enormous spinning rings that govern the lives of its lonely inhabitants. Three characters living a solitary life are reflected in the circular metropolis.

Gideon van der Stelt (1991, Netherlands) is a filmmaker, animator and VFX artist based in Rotterdam. He studied audiovisual arts at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. He is a master of many techniques and creates immersive combinations of animation and live action, incorporating elements from urban environments and everyday life. For almost six years he worked on his short film debut New Babylon (2022), which once started as a small personal project in his attic in the winter of 2015. The film had its world premiere at IFFR as part of the RTM program.
