My Sunshine - Queer Cinema x Camera Japan
This edition is hosted by the Camera Japan Festival, a multidisciplinary Japanese arts and culture festival held annually at LantarenVenster. For this screening, we are looking at My Sunshine, a gentle tale of acceptance under conservative norms.
On a small Japanese island, life revolves around the changing seasons. In winter, ice hockey takes center stage, much to Takuya’s chagrin. His heart lies elsewhere, captivated by Sakura, a talented young figure skater with big ambitions. When former champion and coach Arakawa recognizes Takuya’s hidden talent, he takes him under his wing and pairs him with Sakura for training. As the cold months continue, a harmonious bond develops between the two skaters. But even the first snow eventually melts away…
