Moed
I don't prepare them for exams. I prepare them for life.
In the theatre solo MOED, actor and teacher Mahfoud Mokaddem takes you to his classroom at the MBO 1. He introduces you to Reza, Dayenne, Teun and all those other students for whom no one ever raises a flag. Mahfoud recognizes himself in them. Because he was once like that too: a boy who always sits at the back. In the classroom, on the bus, in society.
The confrontation with his 16-year-old self drives Mahfoud to stand in front of the class and reduce the Citizenship lesson to questions like: how are you, where are you from, where do you want to go? This creates a special bond with his students, but falls outside the standard educational rules. While his students see him as a friend, he is misunderstood by his colleagues and is given one more chance by the management. Like his students, and like before, Mahfoud struggles with the system—until the irreversible happens…
After TWELVE, SIXTEEN and TWENTY-ONE, MOED is the final piece in the research by city company PS|theater into inequality of opportunity in education.
