Michiel Vos & Kenneth Manusama over de Amerikaanse verkiezingen

Democracy of the Wild West - Kenneth Manusama

Law, racism and religion: a democracy under pressure

Is democracy in danger in America? Many people thought so when Donald Trump won the 2016 presidential election. But then Trump lost the 2020 election and democracy seemed saved. It’s a nice thought, but it’s also a lie. The problems in American democracy did not begin with Trump, did not end with his defeat in 2020, and were not unique in American history. But the danger to democracy in America is greater than ever before. The Trump era painfully exposed the structural vulnerability of the democratic constitutional state in America, and the lengths to which reactionaries will go to manipulate elections and thwart progress. Democracy of the Wild West shows how structural vulnerabilities are exploited and why; how democracy is sacrificed by constitutional means for the sake of an America that never existed.

Fox in the US -Michiel Vos

Living in the Heart of American Democracy

In the twenty years he has lived in the United States, the well-known American correspondent Michiel Vos has adapted from a naive immigrant with romantic ideas about his new country to a citizen who can hold up a mirror to his adopted fatherland. As a Dutch boy from Maastricht, he said goodbye to his motherland, married into a well-known American political family and became an American.

In an attempt to unravel the mythology of his New World, Michiel takes us to the American way of life or what is left of it, and opens doors to the American establishment; he meets presidents, pop idols, Hollywood stars and ordinary, mostly angry Americans. Using tasty and humorous anecdotes, he describes the America of the 21st century.
