Masterclass nachtvlinders borduren

In the masterclass you will take the richness of shapes, colours and motifs of the moth as a starting point to design your own moth. Merlijne Marell shares her inspiration and working method and offers you a palette of embroidery stitches.

With an eye for detail and a love of fiddling, Merlijne Marell explores her surrounding nature, as her illustrations in the exhibition Metamorphosis: poetry of change show. In this masterclass, Merlijne takes you along in embroidering moths. Lovers of wool and silk often view moths with suspicion. You don't want them to turn your favorite wool sweater or beautiful silk blouse into a nursery and food supply for their offspring. But just like butterflies, moths also come in many forms. If you study them up close, you can't help but be amazed by their soft bodies, special wing patterns and characteristic antennae.

In the masterclass you will take the richness of shapes, colours and motifs of the moth as a starting point to design your own moth. You can look at the pinned insects in the hall and Merlijne will gladly take you to her exhibition Metamorphosis. She will share her inspiration and working method and offer you a palette of embroidery stitches. By embroidering in various techniques and materials you will give shape to a unique moth. You can process this into a brooch or patch to embellish your clothing, or perhaps even to mask a moth hole…

This workshop is for adults. Some experience with needle and thread and a somewhat fiddly method is required. You can register by sending an email to publiekszaken@hetnatuurhistorisch.nl . After registration you will receive information about payment.
