Marrondag Rotterdam 2024 Steven Brunswijk (stand-up) ^stand-up

During Marrondag, Steven will mainly speak in Aukan, the language of his ancestors. Aukan is a Creole language with African roots, spoken by the Marron community in Suriname. With this, Steven celebrates his Surinamese background and shares his bond with the Marron community. Expect funny and authentic stories, in which culture and humor come together. A unique experience!

Marron Day 2024 in Theater Zuidplein

On Thursday, October 10, 2024, we will celebrate Marrondag in Theater Zuidplein. A festive day full of culture, music, dance and stories from the Maroon community. This annual event is dedicated to the rich Afro-Surinamese culture and offers a stage for the traditions, history and contemporary developments of the Maroons, descendants of enslaved people who managed to escape and founded their own communities in the interior of Suriname.

Program

Steven Brunswijk will give a unique stand-up show in Aukaans. The band Young Cosje will provide a festive closing with their mix of kaseko, soca and reggae. You can also participate in the Awasa dance workshop yourself, where you will learn the graceful movements and rhythms of this traditional dance. In addition, there will be a special pre-program with exhibitions and a book sale. It will be a day full of culture, connection and pride.
