Mark Lewis
Seattle native Mark Lewis is a world-renowned saxophonist and flutist who has built an impressive repertoire of jazz music over the past four decades. He has been part of the jazz scenes in Seattle, San Francisco, Rotterdam, and Paris. His most recent album, Naked Animals, recorded in 1990 with his Dutch quartet, is an important historical recording of a neo-bop quartet that had an enthusiastic following for over a decade. In 2017, he released The New York Session, on which he collaborates with piano legend George Cables, bassist Essiet Essiet, and drummer Victor Lewis. For this album, Mark Lewis was ranked number two for alto saxophone (after Richie Cole) and number three for flute (after Charles Lloyd and Hubert Laws) in the 39th Annual Jazz Station Awards.
Trio A Dyari
Trio A Dyari, originally from Suriname, focuses on performing, arranging and re-releasing traditional Surinamese Kaseko and Kawina music. The common thread in their musical story is jazz. This unique collaboration between both music genres creates a new sound: a fusion of complex Afro-rhythms and the flowing, melodic dynamics of jazz. The collaboration with Mark Lewis (saxophonist and flutist) strengthens this special mix and brings both worlds together powerfully.
