Four virtuoso artists, united by the same cultural heritage from West Africa, come together in the Senegalese/Malian supergroup Mandé Sila. The wealth of their musical traditions from the Mandinka Empire (which from the 14th to the 16th century included present-day Mali, Senegal, Gambia, Guinea-Conakry and Mauritania) come together on stage.
Habib Koité - one of Africa's most popular musicians - is a modern troubadour with charisma and humor. With his sparkling, virtuoso guitar technique and soft, hoarse melodic voice, he knows how to enchant lovers of pop and world music worldwide.
Kora player Lamine Cissokho comes from a famous griot family whose traditions date back to the 14th century, with traditional pieces being passed down from generation to generation. Aly Keïta has gained worldwide recognition for his mastery of the balafon, an instrument similar to the marimba that consists of gourds suspended under wooden slats and is the 'grandfather' of the piano. These three musicians are accompanied by Habib's regular percussionist, Mama Koné, who has also performed with Eric Bibb.
