MaidaVale

Swedish ingenuity that makes psych and kraut sound very tropical

The Swedish psych wonder MaidaVale knows how to impress the audience. With a heavy dose of neo-psychedelia and krautrock, refined with a shot of post-punk, a pinch of funkadelia and a hint of North African blues, they whizz across stages like a tropical whirlwind. Expect an evening of catchy grooves, the best 70s reverb and spirited energy at Grounds.

With acclaimed debut “Tales of the Wicked West” (2016), they quickly took on big european rock scenes and festivals. More kraut influenced sophomore album “Madness is too Pure” (2018) confirmed the band’s place in the psych rock scene with its bold and experimental take on the genre, nominating them for the Swedish music prize P3 Guld in the rock category alongside acts like Graveyard.

Their new album “Sun Dog” (2024) is a journey in the borderland between euphoria and melancholia. It extracts the band’s essence – the vibrant interplay, captivating beats, raw vocals and innovative guitar – down to a more colorful and ecstatic collection of songs. With Matilda Roth’s stirring yet dynamic vocal performance at the center, the lyrics explore different aspects of hardship in human interaction and reflect on inner conflicts and yearnings. And Sofia Ström’s playful guitar with heavy fuzz and analogue echo creates a dazzling soundscape, capturing the energy of the band’s highly acclaimed live performances. After shows at Manchester Psych Fest, Burg Herzberg Festival, Rockpalast, Barcelona Psych Fest, Desertfest Berlin, and extensively touring with bands like Kikagaku Moyo, Goat and Earthless in Scandinavia and Europe, MaidaVale is ready to rock the stage at Grounds.
