Maasklarinetensemble

Every year RCMS focuses on one instrument, this time it is the clarinet. A great opportunity to hear our artistic director and talented clarinetist Julien Hervé play! Together with four young clarinetists he founded the Maasclarinet ensemble.

In addition to their instrument, the musicians have in common that they were all affiliated with Codarts Rotterdam. This teacher-student relationship has created a wonderful collaboration in which everyone can make their voice heard. The Mexican Abraham Gómez presents his own composition in this project: "Claroscuro"; a musical reflection of his life as a young Mexican composer and clarinetist in the Netherlands. Then two masterpieces of French music will be performed: Sonata for two clarinets by Poulenc and the electrifying contemporary duo "Métal" by Bruno Mantovani. We will hear the famous "Histoire du Tango" by Astor Piazzolla in an arrangement for five clarinets. We conclude with a suite of Cuban dances.

The pieces have alternating casts. The different music styles and instrumentation show many facets of the clarinet. The musicians will introduce the pieces of this program themselves. It will be a musical celebration around this beautiful instrument.
