Lucas Santana Grand Orquestra

Brazilian saxophonist Lucas Santana presents his new project Candomblé. His music reflects the rich and complex history of the African diaspora in South America.

Brazilian saxophonist Lucas Figueiredo Santana proudly announces his new project Candomblé. Under the banner of JOC Productions, a production house of Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw, Santana will present unique compositions with a large ensemble that will take listeners into a deep reflection on the past, present and future.

The Candomblé project refers to the religious movement of the same name in Brazil, which originated in the time of slavery. This movement has elements of Catholic worship and is based on traditional African religion, including ancestor worship. Santana's music reflects on the rich and complex history of the African diaspora in South America and celebrates the people who have committed themselves to a better future. This project goes beyond presenting new music. Candomblé also creates space for dialogue and reflection on our culture, history and identity.
