Lof der Zotheid - De Veenfabriek
Loosely based on Erasmus' satirical hymn from 1511, the Veenfabriek creates a mess of fun on stage with 'Praise of Folly' to celebrate the folly in ourselves and others. Erasmus made fun of citizens, merchants, clergy and all other walks of life in his time. De Veenfabriek makes fun of groups of self-proclaimed equals in ours. Because hypocrisy and self-deception are timeless. And even now we take ourselves too seriously and forget to laugh at the absurdity of life.
The Goddess of Madness sings about herself and her colorful company with infectiously witty madness. Through striking raps we tumble into cheerful circus music and deliberately lose the thread. The musicians and players of the Veenfabriek frolic, dance and sing on stage, loosening the rusted frames, flipping middle fingers to raised fingers and biting off the tongues of know-it-alls. Sometimes there is so much more meaning to be found in nonsense.
