Lezing: Pioniers – Fotografie door vrouwen

Curator and photo specialist Elwin Hendrikse will give a lecture on the book Pioneers – Photography by Women. He will delve deeper into the reason for the book, the research in the National Archives and will show a large number of examples of the groundbreaking work of photographers such as Augusta Curiel, Gerda Taro, Emmy Andriesse, Eva Besnyö, Bertien van Manen, Ata Kandó, Catherine Leroy, Margaret Bourke-White and others. Since the beginning of photography, women have played an important role in the development of this medium. They used the camera as an instrument for emancipation and experimentation, documented wars and abuses and often pushed boundaries in the process. They also defied social conventions. The lecture will do justice to their important role in photography and will provide a more complete picture of the history of photography.
