Kumbia Boruka

Kumbia Boruka mixes traditional cumbia with reggae, dub, rock latino and Peruvian chicha into an explosive sound that they call nueva cumbia. With an energetic show full of captivating rhythms and powerful horns, the band from Monterrey will make it a big party in GROUNDS. ¡Vamos Rayados!

Kumbia Boruka is a multicultural band with eight musicians from Mexico, Chile, Argentina and France. The band’s roots lie in the city of Monterrey, in the north of Mexico, where cumbia is the anthem of the neighbourhood and where the legend of Mexican cumbia, Celso Piña, was born. Hernán Cortés, frontman of Kumbia Boruka, learned to play the accordion from this great master and accompanied him on his international tours. The band’s music reflects the sound of the Mexican streets: classic cumbia mixed with influences of reggae, dub and tropical music – psychedelic electric guitar melodies, an extended rhythm section including guacharaca and congas, powerful and exciting brass arrangements and last but not least the brilliant sound of the accordion. The result is a new cumbia, hybrid and full of power, intense tropical sounds with a fiery energy that embraces the rhythms of Latin America. That’s Kumbia Boruka!

After the success of their albums La Vida se Vive, El Remedio and Santa Suerta and more than 400 concerts across the European continent (including Zwarte Cross, Concert at Sea and LantarenVenster), Kumbia Boruka will now set GROUNDS on fire.
