The Belfast rappers use the Irish language as their weapon in this energetic comedy, which evokes the same raw, rebellious vibe that brought Trainspotting to cinemas 28 years ago. Kneecap stars the hip-hop trio - Móglaí Bap (Naoise), Mo Chara (Liam Óg) and DJ Próvai (JJ) - as themselves.

When bored music teacher JJ accidentally comes into contact with friends Naoise and Liam Óg, it turns out to be the beginning of an unprecedented Irish hip-hop act. Rapping in their native tongue, the rebellious trio Kneecap break through in Belfast and quickly become the figureheads of a civil rights movement fighting to preserve the Irish language. As public debate over language legislation flares up, police and politicians do everything they can to silence the anarchist trio.

The film, which won the Audience Award at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival, captures the unparalleled energy of Kneecap, who rocked several major venues in the Netherlands this summer, culminating in their show at Down The Rabbit Hole (3voor12's favorite show of the festival).
