Kamerkoor Ilmatar - De Langste Nacht

In De Langste Nacht, Chamber Choir Ilmatar celebrates the birth of light in the weeks of the winter solstice. In concerts on 14 and 15 December (around Lucia's festival) and 20 and 21 December (around midwinter) we sing about the hope for a new spring and the birth of light, in music from Western, Northern and Eastern Europe and the Middle East. For this we collaborate with the Armenian-Syrian singer Ibrahim Kevo.

The music moves with the birth of light: from quiet and soft to festive and exuberant at the end of the concert. From mystical sounds from 16th century England to modern folk music from Norway, and from sometimes thousands of years old folk songs from Romania, Czech Republic and Kurdistan to contemporary compositions by Valentin Silvestrov, Cecilia McDowall and Ola Gjeilo. In all kinds of guises and from different religions and rituals, the music moves through the silent (and holy) night in which the light is born.

Be welcome to a surprising Christmas concert, that makes you long for the holy nights and the new year. A concert where the light is literally lit.
