Júníus Meyvant Icelandic soul and folk with a unique twist

Júníus Meyvant combines soulful freaky folk pop with a rich sound palette of sultry vocals, sizzling guitars and warm horns. Influenced by Sam Cooke and The Rolling Stones and after successful tours through Europe and the US, he continues to enchant with his captivating melodies and unique style.

Westman Islands-raised and born musician Unnar Gísli Sigurmundsson has been releasing music under the name Júníus Meyvant for several years now.

In his early twenties, Unnar found a guitar at his parents’ house and started playing around. Playing the guitar allowed him to tame his inner beast and his sense of songs and melodies exploded like a rocket. The uncontrollable urge to write music and the constant flow of ideas kept him awake forever and ever.

Júníus Meyvant's haunted, concise, melodic and rich take on freaky folk-pop has a very familiar and soulful feel and a touch of attitude. Júníus' wide sonic palette is all-encompassing and built from his

sultry voice, sizzling guitars, pumping rhythms drenched in horns, synths and mellotron. The thirty-something has been compared to Sam Cooke, Charles Bradley, The Rolling Stones and Devendra Banhart and has a few singles, an EP and an LP to his name.

After successful tours through Europe and the US (including performances at Roskilde Festival in Denmark and Bumbershoot in Seattle), Júníus released his debut album Floating Harmonies in 2016. In the year 2018, Júníus finished working on his second album, Across the Borders, with musician and engineer Guðmundur Kristinn Jónsson (Erlend Oye, Ásgeir, Hjálmar) at Hljóðriti Studio. In 2022, he released the album Guru, and now he's back with his new single ''When You Touch The Sky''.
