Joker: Folie à Deux
In 2019, director Todd Phillips put a new spin on the comic book adaptation with Joker , making the opposite of a superhero film. Joker was a dark, visceral look into the psyche of a man cast aside by society and left to fend for himself.
Now there’s Joker: Folie à Deux , in which Joaquin Phoenix returns as Arthur Fleck/Joker, his Oscar-winning dual role, this time with Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn at his side. In the film, Arthur Fleck is in Arkham Prison, awaiting trial for the crimes he committed as Joker. But while he struggles with his split personality, Arthur finds love in Harley and the music that has always been inside him. Together, this lovestruck couple embarks on a tumultuous and musical adventure…
Todd Phillips, who was nominated for the Oscars as writer, director and producer of Joker , also directed this second part, from a screenplay he wrote with Scott Silver. With nice supporting roles from Brendan Gleeson ( The Banshees of Inisherin ) and Catherine Keener ( Capote ).
