Jembaa Groove

We welcome Berlin collective Jembaa Groove for an evening full of energetic grooves and Afro beats at BIRD Rotterdam. This unique band, led by singer and percussion legend Eric Owusu and bassist/producer Yannick Nolting, has built an impressive international reputation in recent years. After the release of their debut album 'Susuma' in 2022, they received massive support from international media, including KEXP, BBC 6, Gilles Peterson and Soulection.

Now they are back with their second studio album 'Ye Ankasa/We ourselves' and are ready to share their new sound with the world. Inspired by the Ghanaian Highlife of the 70s, Jembaa Groove brings a contemporary blend of Highlife, Jazz and Soul, with influences that go beyond imitating the greats that came before them. The band, which consists of former bandmates of legendary artists such as Tony Allen, Ebo Taylor and Pat Thomas, have created a sound of their own that continues to evolve.

Their upcoming tour will take them to some of the most prestigious venues worldwide, including SXSW, Supersonic Jazz and ESNS. With shows planned in London, Paris, Amsterdam and São Paulo, Rotterdam is also on their list!
