Whether Jarrod Lawson is playing a subdued ballad or building a funky party with a full band, with his elastic vocal cords and virtuoso piano playing he effortlessly navigates between different styles. Above all, the super talent carries the soul of many decades with him. From Donny Hathaway and Marvin Gaye to D'Angelo; Lawson honors them without ever imitating. Lawson emerged from nowhere in 2015 with a debut album that conquered the jazz and soul world and received rave reviews. The singer-songwriter and keyboardist from Portland, Oregon released his long-awaited second album Be The Change on the British Dôme Records in 2020. The title is inspired by a famous quote by Gandhi: 'You can be the change you wish to see in the world.' Lawson's signature layered harmonies and vocal phrasing, his clever jazz/fusion arrangements and his astonishing keyboard skills are evident throughout the album, which also features a collaboration with alternative R&B trio Moonchild. On his latest single, "Next Move," he teams up with rising soul singer Raquel Rodriguez.
