'It's on the one' is a catchphrase in funk music, emphasizing the first beat of the bar. The phrase was coined by James Brown, intended to keep his band in line during performances and recordings. James Brown was at the cradle of funk music, which is why the Ghetto Funk Collective chose this quote as the title for a performance that drips and pounds with funk.
