I Vow To Distract Forever

In I Vow To Distract Forever, Djuwa promises that as a performer she will always be her most authentic self, even if she is considered 'distracting' from a classical perspective.

Djuwa Mroivili, a versatile artist based in Amsterdam, is a beacon of authenticity in the world of classical music. Djuwa explores how to challenge traditional (cis, hetero, eurocentric) norms and dominant hierarchies in the classical music tradition, while embracing an authentic narrative.

In I Vow To Distract Forever Djuwa vows to always be her most authentic self as a performer, even if she is considered ‘distracting’ from a classical perspective. She aims to break down the classical hierarchies between composer, musician and instrument and strives for equally enjoyable experiences for all parties involved, where there is room for experimentation, strength and softness.

Djuwa's own work is characterized by a mix of classical music, theater and beauty. Creating experiences that resonate with a sense of connection and recognition. Through her art she offers healing experiences by presenting new perspectives on social issues, using vulnerability as her superpower.

With a Bachelor of Classical Music degree and a piano major from ArtEZ (2016-2021), Djuwa has broken down barriers and challenged the status quo. She occasionally graces classical concert halls with traditional performances, such as her collaboration with double bassist James Oesi. Both share a love for black composers within the classical realm. In March, her album Adoration was released, which she created together with musician James Oesi. This album is a release and testament to this exploration. Listen to the album below to witness Djuwa's talent!
