Hush (14+) - De Dansers
In Hush, The Dancers seek solace in dance and music. A hand on your shoulder; a second voice that travels with you wherever you go; a rhythm you can lean into, like in an embrace.
In Hush, The Dancers seek solace in dance and music. A hand on your shoulder; a second voice that travels with you wherever you go; a rhythm you can lean into, like in an embrace. The band of dancers and musicians finds each other again, in the border area between dance performance and pop concert. Dancers become musicians, musicians become dancers. Delicate guitar flourishes drive the performers into each other's arms. Swaying bodies enforce the rhythm of the music. Hush is not told through individual performances, but through the meticulous attention and dedication that exists between the players.
Choreographer
Josephine van Rheenen (1988) trained as a Dance Teacher at the Theater School Amsterdam and started working as a dancer with De Dansers during her studies. After five years on stage with the companies De Dansers, Vloeistof and Breekgoed, she succeeded Wies Merkx as artistic director of De Dansers in 2014, together with Guy Corneille. Since then she has been making her own work for De Dansers for both children and adults. As a choreographer, Josephine searches for humanity in dance and strives for an intuitive dance language that starts from instincts. Openness, surrender and interaction are key words in her work.
Composer/Performer
Guy Corneille (1990) has been artistic director of De Dansers together with Josephine van Rheenen since 2014. In the performances he jumps across the stage as a (self-taught) musician and physical performer at the same time. He also co-creates with choreographer Josephine van Rheenen as a composer and music-oriented dramaturge. Guy has an academic background in socio-cultural anthropology and a history in the pop circuit with his indie band La Corneille. His artistic interest is in communicating physical/emotional experience; the casual performativity of pop concerts; and work that is accessible without being superficial or cheap.
