Humbert Humbert Het Zuidelijk Toneel
Director Silke van Kamp explores her fascination with Nabokov's Lolita, fascinated by young women, their sexuality, fantasies and desires. She turns the novel inside out, investigating the thin line between desire and action.
In Humbert Humbert, Silke silences the man and attempts to give Lolita, in all her capriciousness, her own identity and voice (back). Referring to current debates, own experiences and based on interviews with abused women, Silke, together with author Annet Bremen (2023 Playwriting Prize nomination), reshapes the story, radically from the female perspective.
“From a young age I was curious about sexuality and feelings of love and the pursuit of them. Fortunately, I could fantasize about that without any worries without anyone seeing it as an unintentional invitation. In this performance I want to explore both the raw beauty of young female sexuality and the taboo surrounding it. Let's talk about this.” - Silke van Kamp
