Hoe werkt vogelonderzoek?

Bird research

Bird research began 200 years ago. At that time, people had no cameras, no modern binoculars and no apps. Nevertheless, they have discovered a great deal about how birds live, how many there are, where they go and why some species are in danger of disappearing. You can find out more about the pioneers of bird research in the new exhibition 'Passion for birds - about early birders, ingenuity and field research'.

Tips and tricks

Even now, with all these modern tools, it is still quite difficult to count birds well. How do you know for sure that you are not counting the same bird twice? And how do you find them all? How do you know what species it is? The answers to these difficult questions, and many other tips and tricks for researching birds, will be discussed in this special lecture during the Weekend of Science. And of course you can also ask interesting questions yourself. Maybe you will come up with a question that still needs research! On Sunday afternoon, October 6, you are welcome in Het Natuurhistorisch. Do you have binoculars? Bring them! There is always something to see.
