Het Rotterdam van mijn vader

Theatre performance by Rick Willemsen about the typical father-son relationship in Rotterdam in the 70s and 80s.

My Father's Rotterdam is the theatre version of the book about a son's search for the relationship with his father. Rick Willemsen, who grew up in Rotterdam-Ommoord and Kralingen, discovers the war diaries of his father and grandfather in a cupboard in his parental home. Independently, they kept a diary during the hunger winter in Rotterdam.

Rick puts the family stories together like puzzle pieces. He reads all the letters and articles his father wrote as a journalist, his speeches for Bram Peper and examines his own relationship with his father. His father died in 1998 from the consequences of Alzheimer's disease. What remained was the feeling of loss. Was it a missed opportunity between father and son?

The answer to this question is the subject of this theatre performance. An inspiring evening for all Rotterdammers who are proud of their city.
