Het Mirakel van Geel

Medieval song comes back to life after 500 years.

The miracle of Geel is inspired by the legend of Dympna, an Irish princess from the seventh century. In the Officium of St. Dympna of Geel she is sung as the patron saint of 'people who lost their heads'.

The concert is based on Dympna's life story; her strength, her upbringing, the abuse by her father, her beheading and finally her martyrdom.

It results in a program with unique melodies and texts, which can be heard for the first time in 500 years. Texts and thoughts by Edvard Munch and Virginia Woolf frame the program.

The proceeds from the voluntary contributions from the public will benefit the Erasmushuis Rotterdam Foundation
