Heerenhuyskamerconcert - Verzoening
Verzoening is a musical duo consisting of singer Flora (Florieke de Geus) and Rutger Mathys on chromatic harmonica. They share a passion for jazz and poetry in surprising arrangements.
These kindred spirits found each other at the Rotterdam Conservatory where they both studied at the jazz department. Currently, Flora lives in Paris and Rutger in Ghent, but they regularly tour in the Netherlands and Belgium where they could be heard and seen at places such as Gent Jazz, North Sea Jazz, LantarenVenster and the Bimhuis. Flora and Rutger also come together again and again in their duo formation 'Verzoening' to share stories in the intimate setting of a living room concert.
Flora studied at Codarts and now travels between Paris, Berlin and Rotterdam where she performs in various formations. She has had the honor to learn from great musicians such as Izaline Calister, Ilja Reijgoud and Riccardo del Fra and has performed on stages such as the North Sea Jazz Festival, Amersfoort Jazz Festival, Bimhuis and BIRD Rotterdam.
Rutger's life is an ode to music and boundless creativity. The year 2022 marked a turning point in his career when he won the Toots Thielemans Challenge, supported by the management of this legendary harmonica player. His music has resonated on major stages, from a performance for the Belgian royal family, to Berlin, Vietnam and the Brussels and North Sea Jazz Festival in 2023.
Rutger completed his master's degree in Jazz at Codarts with honors in 2024.
