Heerenhuyskamerconcert - Arie van der Krogt
City singer Arie van der Krogt sings Fados and Weenas.
In every port city you can hear the fado, songs full of melancholy and hope. They are about men who are at sea and who will return one day. About the neighborhoods where life takes place. Rotterdam also has its fados and Arie van der Krogt calls them 'Weena's'.
On this Sunday morning, Van der Krogt sings about Rotterdam neighborhoods such as Spangen, Charlois, IJsselmonde and the Noordereiland. As connoisseurs of Arie van der Krogt know: with melancholy and humor, and in this concert hopefully accompanied by Jeroen Dikkers on accordion.
Arie van der Krogt is a writer, translator and singer, known for songs such as 'Zouwe de Touwe 't Houwe', 'Oprolde Mouwen', 'de Natte T' and 'Een echte Rotterdammer'.
He worked as an urban planner and speechwriter for the municipality of Rotterdam. From 1990 onwards he performed with often sharp and pointed Rotterdam songs. A journalist wrote about him: 'What he builds during the day, he breaks down again in the evening.' He produced several CDs and made theme performances about iconic Rotterdam entrepreneurs and artists.
In addition to being a city singer, Van der Krogt is a translator of poetry. He published, among other things, the Sonnets of William Shakespeare (publisher Ad. Donker, 1997). 'The meaning with which you live, gives meaning to your whole life'.
