Gabbers waren we

Rotterdam's Energiehal, somewhere in the mid-nineties: thousands of gabbers gather to hak all night long. That's where Alex, Moon and Ben become best friends. They seem invincible, in a trance of XTC, sweat and at 160 beats per minute, until they lose themselves and each other.

Twenty-five years later and a lifetime later, Alex and Moon meet again. For one night they are confronted with their past, their choices and they try to find back what they have lost.

Gabbers waren we is a wild musical theatre trip by director Olivier Diepenhorst that takes place in the gabber scene of the nineties, when no less than a quarter of the youth called themselves gabber, much to the horror of the rest of the Netherlands. A raw theatre show about friendship and becoming who you want to be - at 160 beats per minute .
