IFFR, Rotterdam Library and Theater Zuidplein are screening the short film The Disaster Cannot Be Contained كان يمكن أن لا أكون together with filmmaker Diana Al-Halabi.
About The Disaster Cannot Be Contained كان يمكن أن لا أكون
In 2020, Beirut was struck by disaster: the largest non-nuclear explosion in history damaged half the city, killing hundreds. Inspired by her dream of one day working in the port, filmmaker Diana Al-Halabi draws a poetic parallel between the port of Rotterdam, where she heard about the disaster, and Beirut, where the disaster occurred. The shock wave hit Beirut in the heart, but the stories reach much further.
In conversation
During the screening of The Disaster Cannot Be Contained كان يمكن أن لا أكون, the audience will engage in conversation with filmmaker Halabi about her creative process. In doing so, the participants will be given tools to help them think about starting points.
The workshop will be given in English. The film will be in Arabic and English, with English subtitles. There is a limited capacity, so reserve your tickets in time.
