Films op Zuid – The Disaster Cannot Be Contained

IFFR and the Rotterdam Library are screening the short film The Disaster Cannot Be Contained together with filmmaker Diana Al-Halabi.

In 2020, Beirut was hit by a disaster: the largest non-nuclear explosion in history damaged half the city, killing hundreds. From her dream of one day working in the port, filmmaker Diana Al-Halabi draws a poetic parallel between the port of Rotterdam, where she heard about the disaster, and Beirut, where the disaster occurred. The shock wave hit Beirut in the heart, but the stories reach much further.

During the screening of The Disaster Cannot Be Contained, attendees will engage in conversation with filmmaker Halabi about her filmmaking process. Participants will learn about the decisions that go into making a film and the motivations behind these creative decisions.

The workshop will be given in English. The film will be in Arabic and English, with English subtitles.
