Film en Boek: One Life

Academy Award winner Sir Anthony Hopkins ('The Two Popes', 'The Father') stars as the older Sir Nicholas Winton and Johnny Flynn ('Emma', 'Beast') plays the role of the younger Nicholas. The other leading roles are played by Helena Bonham Carter ('Alice in Wonderland', 'The King's Speech', 'Harry Potter', 'Howard's End') and Sir Jonathan Pryce ('The Two Popes', 'The Wife').' One Life tells the inspiring true story of Sir Nicholas Winton, whose efforts saved more than six hundred children from the Nazis on the eve of the Second World War.

For years, he and a number of friends worked to bring the children safely to the United Kingdom, where they were often adopted by British families. Fifty years later, in 1988, Nicholas blames himself for not doing enough to save all the children. Not until the BBC program 'That's Life!' invites him to appear on their program, something happens that causes him to finally begin to come to terms with the guilt and grief he's carried with him for five decades.

de Volkskrant -

"One life is an epic about a man who can be called the English Oskar Schindler."

NRC -

"While you look indignantly at the British government's unwillingness to help refugee children, you draw a parallel with today: is Europe now showing the same unwillingness?"
