Bullets for Breakfast

With a mesmerizing mix of optical experiments, poetry and layered storytelling, Bullets for Breakfast delves into the hidden violent dimensions of female existence. Holly Fisher weaves together archive footage, literature and painting into a cinematic composition in which myth and reality seamlessly merge.

A pulp western writer confronts a feminist poet, factory workers in a herring smokehouse confront women from classical European paintings. Fisher recasts stories and images as musical motifs, creating a hybrid between experimental film and documentary, a sensory journey that challenges fact and fiction.

Holly Fisher is a pioneer of avant-garde cinema and has built an impressive body of work as a filmmaker, editor and visual artist since the 1960s. Her work, which explores themes of time, memory and trauma, has been shown worldwide, from the Whitney Biennial and Centre Pompidou to Berlinale's Forum. Bullets for Breakfast won the Best Experimental Film Award at the Ann Arbor Film Festival (1992).

An immersive 16mm experience in which image and sound merge into a hallucinatory symphony. 1992 | 77 min
