Fally Ipupa
Fally Ipupa is a true multi-talent: singer, composer, dancer, guitarist and producer. Originally starting out as a street musician, he joined Koffi Olomide's 'Quartier Latin' in 1999 for seven years. His first solo album 'Droit Chemin' from 2006 became a mega hit in Congo.
Collaborations with 50 Cent, Aya Nakamura, Dadju and Tayc
He quickly achieved international success and worked with stars such as 50 Cent, Aya Nakamura, Dadju and Tayc. Fally's music is a swinging cocktail of soul, funk, rumba, hip hop, island rhythms and subgenres such as soukous and ndombolo. 'I don't write Afropop, but 'tokooos' - international Congolese music.' says Ipupa. The self-invented word 'tokooos' is derived from 'kitoko', which means 'beautiful' or 'positive' in Lingala. The music is deeply rooted in the cultural identity of Kinshasa, yet with global influences. In addition to his music, he is socially involved as a Unicef ambassador and through his own foundation FFI. Anyone who uses the words 'Congo' and 'music' in a sentence today cannot ignore Fally Ipupa. He's the real deal. Standing still? Impossible!
