Expositie Max Pechstein

Pechstein's dynamic and colourful compositions have had a great influence on the development of the visual language of Expressionism. Much of his work reflects a search for a harmonious relationship between man and nature, inspired by Pechstein's travels to the Prussian villages of Nidden and Leba and the Palau Islands. In his work he reflects on an era of profound changes in Europe, including the suppression of his art by the Nazi regime.

Using more than fifty paintings supplemented with prints, woodcuts, drawings, photographs and personal objects of the artist, the Kunsthal shows his broad oeuvre and provides insight into the personal lives of Max Pechstein and Die Brücke.
